Parking Day, Witte de Withstraat, Tent, Rotterdam, 2016
A local line painting company is commissioned to write the word 'slow'
by hand,
directly onto the road, imitating standard letter shapes and techniques
used in
screed marking. Part of a series of works investigating movement,
behaviour and
materials in public space – particularly looking at the rhythms and
movements of
workers who implement signage systems in relation to the public who
respond to
it. Rather than writing the letters by hand, the company used stencils
to make the
letter shapes, except for an improvised 'L'.
